PCOD is a medical condition in which the ovaries produce immature or partially mature eggs. PCOS stands for Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It is a metabolic disorder and it is more severe than PCOD. Both these conditions are a result of poor lifestyles like hormonal imbalance, stress, eating junk, and much more. 33 and 83 percent of women living with PCOS are also overweight.

Common Symptoms of PCOD/PCOS

When a disease occurs it starts showing some symptoms in the body. This is also the same with PCOD and PCOS. In the case of PCOD, there are several symptoms that start appearing. Some of the common symptoms include:

Excessive hairiness
Male pattern baldness

People that are suffering from any of the two may also be at greater risk of problems like diabetes, high BP, and other problems like severe heart diseases. Many people with PCOS can cure the problem by exercising regularly, maintaining a proper diet, and bringing a positive change in their lifestyle.

Does diet affect PCOS?

In simple words, the diet has a very important role in helping people suffering from PCOD or PCOS. People with PCOS have higher than normal insulin levels. If you are unaware, you need to know that Insulin is a hormone that’s produced in the pancreas. It regulates the functioning of the cells and helps to turn sugar or glucose into energy.

If the body does not have a balance of insulin levels, your blood sugar levels can rise. It can also happen if you have insulin resistance. It means that you aren’t able to use the insulin you do produce effectively. Insulin resistance as a condition in the body may also be caused by having a higher BMI that is body mass index. If an individual is consuming a diet that is high in refined carbohydrates, like starchy and sugary foods, it can make insulin resistance, and therefore weight loss, more difficult to manage.

Lean protein food items like fish
Anti-inflammatory foods and spices
Turmeric and tomatoes

Here are some examples of high fiber foods-
Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, some others like red and green peppers, greens, including red leaf lettuce and arugula.

Sugar drinks
inflammatory food items like processed and red meats

On a PCOS/PCOD diet, an individual may want to reduce consumption of beverages like soda and juice, as they can be high in sugar content, as well as inflammation-causing foods, that include fries, margarine, and red or processed meats.
